The Junior Internationals
GO Sport Shooting Academy will return in 2023!
We are delighted to confirm that #TeamGOSport will be returning to the JI’s in 2023! Here you will find all the important information you need to know!
What is the Junior Internationals (JI’s)?
The JI’s are a long established and prestigious competition in the world of junior air target shooting. The purpose of this event is to give young athletes a taste of what it would be like to represent their countries at the Commonwealth Games, World Championships, Junior, Para & Main Olympic Games. There are multiple competitions across multiple days with hundreds of young athletes. Last year saw teams from West Midlands Regional Squad, South East England Regional Squad, UK Scouts, British Shooting Pathway, England, Scotland, Wales, South Africa & GO Sport – the only club team to ever be invited.
Qualification
We work closely with the Welsh Team on selection for the competition. Our athlete’s who are part of the Wales set up will be representing their country at this event and we will take a squad with the purpose of development. This year we have implemented a Minimum Qualifying Score (MQS) for pistol athletes, which is an average score of 480 from in-house competitions held at GO Sport or a score of 500 at external competitions. Rifle athletes will have an MQS based on discipline.
How do I enter?
The first step is to make sure you enter the competitions available at GO sport and meet the MQS. The GO Sport confirm if you have qualified and complete all the required documentation upon receipt of your deposit. Entry costs have not been announced yet for 2023. GO Sport will provide entry details including and excluding accommodation.
Accommodation & Facilities
Bisley has a wide variety of accommodation types of different standards which include a variety of facilities. Based on feedback from last year, GO Sport are in talk with the British Young Shooters Association over hiring their clubhouse exclusively for JI’s. There will be accommodation with food and food only packages available to purchase. WARNING – Accommodation is limited so booking as far as possible in advanced is recommended. There are hotels available in the local area.
Food
There is a Cafe at Bisley that serves hot and cold food throughout the event. There is also supermarkets in the local area. WARNING – Much of the accommodation at Bisley do not have cooking facilities. GO Sport will be offering food packages available at the clubhouse we are hoping to secure for our exclusive use.
BPC Meeting 5th & 6th of August
There is a BPC competition the weekend before the JI’s. This competition uses the same facilities that the JI will be using and is therefore a great opportunity to get some match practice in ahead of the main event. GO Sport staff will be at Bisley from the 5th to support all athletes shooting the weekend before the JI. NOTICE – There is a 25m event on the 6th of August and any athlete competing at the JI in 25m for GO Sport will be required to compete.
